Activist secures return of bribe collected from rape victim

The FCT commissioner of police Bala Ciroma has promised to take disciplinary action against a police woman who extorted N10, 000 from a sexually molested young lady.

The lady was raped by a neighbor in Abuja, and a police woman at the station where she reported the matter had demanded for N10, 000 before she will file the case, after initially collecting N10, 000.

Activist Edoamowo Udeme made this known in a post on her facebook page.

Mrs Udeme whose intervention saw the police woman returning the money to the victim said the officer has also been removed as the Investigating police officer, IPO.

However, Communication and Advocacy Director Make A Difference Lemmy Ugegbe in a reaction said removing the woman from the case was not enough. “It is not enough to simply remove the extortionist police officer from the case, she should be tried, demoted and posted to the mail room. No more cases should be assigned to her, he said in a post on Facebook.

Udeme called for prayers for the victim saying she is depressed, had lost her job and her sister who was assisting her also lost her job and is also under pressure to withdraw the case.
