Ahmed Isa tenders unreserved apology for physical assault.

Ordinary Ahmed Isa, host of Brekete Family programme has apologized for physically assaulting a woman who allegedly set fire to her niece and left her with a burnt head.

Ahmed’s action was exposed in a BBC Africa eye investigative report which was released on May 17.

His action sparked outrage online and offline.

His action also divided Nigeria in two sharp divides. While some people supported his action saying he should have beaten her, others condemned it strongly.

In the apology on his station Human Rights Radio and Television on Wednesday, the ordinary president as he is commonly referred to, admitted that he gets emotional sometimes and that is why he reacted the way he did.

“I get blood inside me, naim make I dey dey emotional sometimes, and if una notice sometimes if I lose control go emotional, una go see say if I realise am on time I go apologise. I go begin try to correct the mistake wey I make. Please for those of una wey dey disappointed please forgive me. For those people wey I don offend, find a place in your heart to forgive me”. He said in his apology.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) had earlier in a statement called for an unreserved public apology and possibly compensation for the assaulted and brutalized lady.

A statement which was signed by the President Ladi Bala and Secretary Helen Udofia said his action negates the basic principle of professional conduct and is totally against known ethical standards of broadcasting.
