NAPTIP to prosecute anyone spreading videos of sexual abuse of minors

The National Agency for the Prohibition of the Trafficking in Persons has warned social media users against the spread of the videos of minors who are been sexually molested saying it will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute anyone found wanting.

NAPTIP in a notice on its website, appealed to social media users and the general public to desist from spreading videos of minors who are being sexually abused, noting that the use of such videos is a violation of the human rights of the minors involved.

The Agency said notice the became necessary after the video of six-year-old minor who was been sexually molested went viral.

The minor according to the Agency has since been rescued and suspects arrested for proper investigation and prosecution.

NAPTIP also warned that anyone who assists or facilitates the activities of persons engaged in acts of trafficking in persons, or is an accessory to acts of trafficking is liable on conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than 5 years and a fine of not less than N1,000,000.

Sanctions for traffickers and those who assist in trafficking the Agency said, will be carried out to the letter as it is a violation of The Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act (TIPPEA ) 2015.
