Girls’ Voices Initiative to honour outstanding women in film at WIFFEN festival.

All is set to honour outstanding women in film at the maiden edition of the Women’s International Film Festival Nigeria (WIFFEN).

Non-Governmental Organisation, Girls’ Voices Initiative organisers of the Festival, said it is aimed at recognizing and celebrating the immense contributions of women to the film industry.

Speaking at a press briefing ahead of the event on Wednesday in Abuja, Festival director, Carolyn Seaman, said although women in the Nigerian movie industry tell the best of stories, they are disadvantaged and unable to thrive in the industry.

Seaman said the festival also hopes to raise awareness and inspire high film standards for female filmmakers.

Billed to open on March 4, programme line up of the festival includes discussions, masterclasses, and screening of short, student, animation, and documentary film.

The films to be screened were selected from over 3,000 film submissions from around 130 countries of the world.

The event which will climax on March 5, at the International Conference Centre in Abuja is being organized in collaboration with French Embassy’s PISCCA Programme and TSTV Africa, the Congo Embassy, Zenith Bank Plc, Aero Contractors, and a host of other partners.
