Court sentences Uduak-Abasi Akpan to death for murder of job seeker Iniubong Umoren

The High Court sitting in Akwa Ibom state has sentenced Uduak-Abasi Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of job seeker Iniubong Umoren.

The Late Iniubong Umoren, a graduate of Philosophy, University of Uyo, UNIUYO, was raped, murdered and buried in a shallow grave by Uduak-Abasi Akpan in April 2021 after she responded to an advert for a job vacancy.

Trial judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang handed out the sentence on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at the State High Court in Akwa Ibom after a trial that lasted over one year.

Uduak-Akpan was the first accused, the second and third defendants Mr. Frank Akoan and daughter, Anwan-Bassey Akpan respectively were discharged and acquitted.

Justice Bassey Nkanang, in his judgement also sentenced Akpan to life imprisonment for rape.
