Building confidence

Women of Might is an online community of women who seek to encourage women to grow in their chosen field of endeavor.
Event coordinator of the group Janice Julcit Adedeji talks about her experience planning events for the group as WOM marks 6 months of existence.
Where I was versus where I am right now as an Events Coordinator.
It is Wednesday and I choose to celebrate myself as a Woman of Might.
When I first started as the events coordinator of this great Community, I had little experience in event planning. I was also very unsure about my performance yet I was passionate about the organization’s mission to empower women, and I was determined to succeed.
I started by learning as much as I could about event planning. I started volunteering with other organizations to gain experience.
At first, I was nervous about planning events. But the more events I planned, the more confident I became.
Today, I am a seasoned event planner. I have planned all of the events for Women of Might with the support of my amazing admin members including networking events, workshops, and trainings.
I am proud of the transformation I have made since I started as the events coordinator of Women of Might. I am now a confident and outgoing leader.
Key lessons I have learned along the way:
Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.
Be willing to learn new things.
Be organized and detail-oriented.
Be able to think on your feet.
Be able to manage multiple projects at the same time.
Be able to work well under pressure.
Be able to build relationships with others.
If you are interested in a career in event planning, I encourage you to start by volunteering with an organization that you are passionate about.
