Akwa Ibom government calls on NBA to institute disciplinary action lawyer involved in viral GBV video

The Akwa Ibom state government has stepped into the case of Gender Based Violence (GBV) by a legal practitioner Ekere Ebong against his wife.

A video which has since gone viral shows Ebong assaulting his wife viciously. The attack left her with severe injuries and blood on her face.

The state government in a statement on Monday, while condemning the act, pledged to assist the victim and ensure that justice is served in line with the provisions of GBV laws.

 According to the statement, the perpetrator, has been arrested and is currently in custody.

While stressing that the state government has zero tolerance for GBV and any other form of violence, the state government also called on the Nigeria Bar Association to institute disciplinary measures against Ebong, whose conduct, as a lawyer, is against the values and ethics of the profession.
