Family, friends colleagues mourn late ace broadcaster Deborah Ohamara

Family, friends and colleagues gathered on the 16 January at a service of songs to pay tribute to Deborah Ohamara, an On Air Personality who lost her life in a fatal road accident.

Debbie as she was fondly called died from complications sustained in the accident.

The General Manager, Nigeria Info, Olufemi Obong-Daniels in a statement said “Deborah will be fondly remembered by the organization for her dedication, passion, unassuming smile and undeniable candour.

“Nigeria Info will forever be thankful to late Debbie for her work ethic and the values she brought to the fore in our quest for transformative broadcasting,” he said.

Former Federal Road Safety Corps Marshal Osita Chidoka in a tribute online said “Deborah is now part of the statistics of the 24 people who died daily in the first half of 2023, according to the Corps. Road Safety is a collective responsibility. The government should place some renewed emphasis on the lives of the young Nigerians wasting on our roads.”

In another tribute Lemmy Ughebe, child and gender rights advocate described Debbie’s death as sad. “Cool, calm, reassurance she’d bestow, easing burdens in the soft radio flow. But fate intervened, a cruel twist, a hit and run, a gem missed.” He said in a tribute he tagged an elegy to Deborah Ohamara.

Debbie was a native of Cross River State, who started her career as a newscaster with the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation, CRBC TV, and also served as a presenter on 105.5 Paradise FM Calabar before joining the services of Nigeria Info Fm.
