Anambra government to rehabilitate former tennis champion

The Anambra state government says former Tennis player Jacqueline Okweuze has been taken into custody.
Jacqueline Okweuze also known as Tanya Okpala had gone viral in a video where she was shown wandering the streets of Awka and begging.
Okpala had in video, Okpala, looked visibly distressed, while sharing her struggles, and revealing that she felt abandoned and neglected.
She also expressed frustration at being mocked for her mixed heritage.
The former Tennis star who affirmed her identity as a black Igbo, said “the whole world hears my story and they laugh at me. I do not know why they laugh at me. They will say ‘Go back to your country’. I am just tired.”
Governonr Chukwuma Soludo in a tweet on X on Sunday, revealed that Okpala is now in the custody of the state government.
“Tanya Okpala (former Tennis champion) is now in the custody of the Anambra State Government. She was with the Commissioner of Women Affairs when my wife spoke with her on the phone.
“My government will ensure her rehabilitation and fruitful reunion with her daughter and family,” the tweet said.
