Ace broadcaster and founder of Strictly Speaking Academy, unveils plans to raise N100 million for cancer research

Ace broadcaster Bimbo Oloyede and founder of Strictly Speaking Academy has unveiled plans to raise ₦100 Million Naira to aid the research and treatment of cancer in public hospitals in Nigeria through her registered Non-Governmental Organisation- Lifeline Advocacy and Development Initiative.

Mrs Oloyede who made this know at a press briefing in Lagos, said the initiative which launch coincides with her birthday is meant to serve as a life line for cancer patients in the country.

The broadcaster who recounted how she lost family members to the disease, enjoined the public to join her in raising funds to facilitate vital research and raise funds for equipment and accessories.

She also announced the establishment of a fund-raising committee to be chaired by Mrs. Toun Okewale-Sonaiya, the CEO of WFM 91.7.

The funds generated according to Mrs. Oloyede are to be paid into the account of Lifeline Advocacy and Development Initiative, Fidelity Bank Account No:5601206418.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) recently estimated that the number of new cancer cases globally will reach 35 million by 2050, 77% higher than the figure recorded in 2022 which stood at an estimated 20 million new cases and 9.7 million deaths.

WHO predicted that the situation is growing worse in Africa, where it claims diagnosis is usually late, making cancer treatment and management a bit difficult to handle.
