Namibia makes history by electing first female president

Namibia has made history with the election of Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as its first president.

Nandi-Ndaitwah was declared the winner of the presidential election going by the results released by the country’s electoral commission.

Nandi-Ndaitwah got 57% of the vote, while her closest contender, Panduleni Itula, leader of the Independent Patriots for Change (IPC), came second with 25.5%, a decrease from the 29% he achieved in 2019.

In her remarks after she was elected, Nandi-Ndaitwah who is a seasoned politician and former vice-president, said “The Namibian nation has voted for peace and stability.”

The president elect is a seasoned seasoned politician and former vice-president.

She was promoted from foreign minister to vice-president in February, after president Hage Geingob passed on while in office.
